Mission Statement

The mission of the United Black Family Scholarship Foundation is to provide all races a quality education to change political structures and systems that perpetuate poverty and racism. Our programs and initiatives advance education not in the strict sense of “credentialism,” rather education as it pertains to “Rebuilding the Community from within the Community” by empowering people to take action in the political transformation of our communities.
The seed of a bonsai tree has the potential to grow into a full-size tree. But, planted in a tiny pot, its growth is stunted. A person deprived of education or opportunity is like a bonsai.

A Word From Our Founder | Ivan Kilgore

The United Black Family Scholarship Foundation (UBF) is a student and volunteer-staffed 501(c)(3) nonprofit operating in Oklahoma, California and New York.

The organization was incorporated in Oklahoma on May 22, 2014, with a mission to use quality education as a way to challenge man-made structures and systems that perpetuate poverty and racism.

Two of our nation’s most serious problems which harm everyone in our society. We work with communities plagued by high incarceration rates.

We provide community members and young adults with opportunities and resources to build life skills and job skills, develop economic stability, and escape the grasp of the school to prison pipeline. Our work is designed to “rebuild the community from within the community.”
