THE UNITED BLACK FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION IS SEEKING VOLUNTEER EDITORS

August 2, 2019

If you have the skills of a writing editor, and would like to take part in bringing to life the stories of our voiceless ones – those hidden from society, you can become their voice by assisting with the publication of their untold stories in the UBF’s “100 Prisoner Books” Publishing Project.
Many people in prison want to give back to their communities, and UBF Productions, a publishing program developed by the United Black Family Scholarship Foundation, is seeking volunteer writing editors who qualify in the following areas:

Editing Skills
• knowledge of proper grammar, punctuation, sentence structure
• organize manuscript content for clarity
• intermediate computer skills
• creativity
• ability to work independently and as a team with UBFSF staff and volunteers

Personal Skills
Volunteer editors must be open minded in the following areas in order uphold the integrity of the author/artists’ work:

• Since editors will be working with pieces written by incarcerated persons, they will be reading manuscripts that may speak about the choices and experiences of the author and the impact on their lives. Thus, volunteers must be capable of editing from a non-judgmental point of view.

• While the overall goal is to publish 100 “prisoner” books, editors should be mindful of respecting the author/artist and avoid thinking of them in terms of prisoner, incarcerated, or convict; rather, they should be thought of as human beings, and referenced as author/artist or by their first/last names.

• Editors must respect all author/artists race, ethnicity, religion, culture and point of view.

Equipment Needed
• Computer
• Access to internet
• Access to copy/print/scan

I began to realize that my footprints were going to be washed away in the tide of life because I had not gave due consideration to how I was living it. In fact, I was not living at all.
