Inspiration: A Voice from the Inside

A life-changing conversation with the incarcerated author, philanthropist, and activist Ivan Kilgore as he takes us on the journey of the inspirational story behind his recently published book, Murder, Mayhem & Magnificence: A Memoir. Prison brought me to a point where I was forced to reflect on my legacy… My footsteps were going to be washed away in the tide of life because I had not given consideration to how I was living it… I had become a statistic….

It is often said that everyone has a book in them; that the events of our lives become words on a page inspiring a story others will vicariously seek to experience. Often, our bestsellers reflect the stories of those who, at some point in life, discovered the ability to create and control their own narrative. Opposed to being manipulated by circumstances, they are the ones who learn how to manipulate them to their advantage. For them, life is a blank page. The words they write on it are the blueprint to success, happiness, wealth, and so much more.

These are the words that inspire us to wake up every day and greet an imperfect world with sure determination to overcome the challenges it places before us.

Mayhem, Murder & Magnificence, a  memoir, is an inspirational story of the author,  philanthropist, and activist Ivan Kilgore who found inspiration to establish the United Black  Family Scholarship Foundation under circumstances least likely to inspire most.  Wrongfully convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life without the possibility of parole, he inspires readers with a unique story that tells of countless obstacles and lessons learned while navigating some of the nation’s most dangerous ghettos and prisons.

A small-town country boy, who dared to reach for the American dream, this is a story of triumphant and painstaking lessons learned in some of the most unthinkable predicaments a  human being could find him or herself in.

A Little About Ivan Kilgore

Ivan was born to the proud parents of Reiletta Kilgore and Frank Williams Jr. He was raised for the most part in Seminole County, Oklahoma. At the heart of this racially intolerant stretch of land was the county seat–Wewoka, his birthright. Yet, he and his family resided here and there throughout the state. From jump at age three, Ivan’s father had checked-out. Though, his abandonment was not by choice. Three bullets caught him in the back of the head. His murder would be the first of many life-altering events in Ivan’s childhood.nt goes here

How Can Someone In Prison Inspire Me to be Free & Live Life to the Fullest?

I began to realize that my footprints were going to be washed away in the tide of life because I had not gave due consideration to how I was living it. In fact, I was not living at all. I existed and was struggling to survive. What prison did was gave me time to take inventory, a hard look, at the fact that I had become a statistic, a number with little value amongst my community and peers. It was then that I became determined to change not only my plight but those of others.
