UBFSF | R.E.B.U.I.L.D. Community Reinvestment Program

Reinvesting in Every Black and Underserved Institution to Liberate and Diversify

R.E.B.U.I.L.D. is a transformative real estate development pilot initiative designed to provide “at-promise” youth in prison-pipeline communities with the tools, skills, and mentorship needed to restore and revitalize their neighborhoods. Participants gain hands-on experience in property management, development, demolition, financing, and brokerage, empowering them to create sustainable change.

This program not only equips participants with practical real estate skills but also explores the long-term impact of housing segregation and systemic discrimination. By understanding the roots of inequality—seen in dilapidated neighborhoods and the growing racial income gap—participants are prepared to address these challenges and create new opportunities for their communities.

“R.E.B.U.I.L.D. is the solution to this problem.”

Program Objectives

Participants in the R.E.B.U.I.L.D. Program work toward:

  • Disrupting the Prison Pipeline: Offering pathways to success through education and skill-building.
  • Fostering Partnerships: Connecting community members, activists, businesses, and service organizations.
  • Supporting Youth and Families: Advocating for “at-promise” youth to build brighter futures.
  • Increasing Homeownership and Business Development: Strengthening local economies through real estate initiatives.
  • Providing Mentorship: Building leadership and technical skills for long-term success.
  • Inspiring Community Engagement: Encouraging broad participation from diverse stakeholders.
  • Rebuilding Communities: Revitalizing neighborhoods through collaboration and sustainable development.

Why R.E.B.U.I.L.D. Matters

The legacy of over 75 years of housing segregation and discriminatory policies has created systemic barriers for Black and underserved communities. These policies have led to poor housing conditions, economic disparities, and cycles of poverty. R.E.B.U.I.L.D. directly addresses these issues by empowering youth with the knowledge and skills to restore their neighborhoods, disrupt the prison pipeline, and close the racial income gap.
