UBFSF | R.E.B.U.I.L.D. Community Reinvestment Program

Reinvesting in Every Black and Underserved Institution to Liberate and Diversify
UBFSF Bilal Tahlib Ali
R.E.B.U.I.L.D. is a real estate development pilot program designed to provide alternative paths in prison-pipeline communities by assisting “at-promise” youth to develop, equip, and connect with the wherewithal to restore their communities.

Here, we provide an opportunity for young men and women in undeserved communities to gain an A-to-Z (on-the-job) experience that includes, but is not limited to, commercial and residential property manage_ment, development and demolition, financing, and brokerage.

Not only does this program provide an apprenticeship in real estate development, it also teaches the youth the impact of over 75 years of housing segregation and discrimination in the African American community. The effect of which remains with us today and can be seen in undeserved communities across America where housing policy has created scores of dilapidated properties and housing projects to warehouse the nation’s poor.

The consequence of which every social and economic problem we face from mass incarceration to crime infested neighborhoods is connected to this history and has materialized in a ever-growing income gap between white and bl@ck households.

R.E.B.U.I.L.D. is the solution to this problem!

Program Objectives:
• Disrupt the prison-pipeline
• Create strong partnerships between community members, activists, businesses, and service organizations
• Support “at-promise” youth and their families through education and advocacy
• Increase homeownership and business development
• Resource Development
• Provide mentorship and skill development
• Inspire broad community participation
• Connect, Support and Rebuild Communities
